Tiki Kon: Eye of the Tiki

This year's theme is a question: What's new and next for Tiki?

We know where we’ve been, but where are we going? Tiki is a genre that continues to evolve stylistically, just as it has since its origins. Looking back we can identify each decade by how it was shaped by the artists, designers, bartenders, and other influencers of the day.

From the early years when Donn Beach and Vic Bergeron were just getting started in the 30s and 40s, through the halcyon post-war era of the 50s and 60s, to Tiki's dilution and demise in the 70s and 80s, each decade had a distinctive look that reflected current trends in art and fashion. Even the revival in the late 1990s and the current post-revival era have their own flavors and feels, derived from the unique talents and personalities of those who propelled Tiki back into the public eye.

Now 2020 starts a new decade for the Tiki Revival, and Eye of the Tiki is staring it down, wondering what's next. How will we remember this post-revival era in another 20...30...40 years? How will it evolve, what will make it distinctive, and who will be the influencers? These are the questions we will explore.
